Louisiana Christian University is passionately devoted to the intersection of faith and learning through academic instruction and spiritual and cultural events each semester. We recently redesigned the format of the Schaeffer scholarship requirements to more closely align with this focus. As a result, we have selected John Stonestreet and Brett Kunkle's 2020 book A Student's Guide to Culture for Schaeffer students to read. Their approach centers on how Christians today can understand and influence culture, covering foundational topics like worldview, dangerous undercurrents of our culture, and even practical chapters devoted to cultural challenges we currently face.
Students will now access the required scholarship materials through Canvas after making an official application for the scholarship on the school's website. Students will view videos from four of our LCU professors who teach through the book's content. Each section of the book has a required quiz and then a final reflective essay is written to synthesize the material. We are convinced that this new approach will help prospective students not only expand their thinking about how Christians should interact with culture but also prepare them for the faith-infused instruction they will receive at Louisiana Christian University.
