The Center for Calling and Career will serve as the oversight for the College’s Experiential Learning Initiative (ELI) which equips students to complete two of the following during their academic career: Research w/a prof; Study Abroad; Service Learning; & Internships. The ELI framework offers students credible learning opportunities which will be legitimate and included as part of a student’s transcript. This approach truly sets our students apart. Our vision is to provide our students with professional opportunities to truly use the knowledge learned in the classroom and apply it through each of these experiences.

It is hard to believe that I arrived on the campus of  Louisiana Christian University forty-nine years ago.  My family really did not have the money for me to attend college but I had a National Defense Student Loan, music scholarship, and an alumni Scholarship.  Forty-nine years later, I can truly say that everything that I have accomplished during my personal and professional career can be contributed to arriving on campus at Louisiana Christian University. No matter how much I give, I know that I can never repay the debt that I owe to the faculty, staff, and administrators that molded me into the individual that I am today.

I had no idea that my time as a student at Louisiana Christian University was a training ground for when I would also guide students in the pursuit of their education one day in the future. God prepared me for a calling and career even at that point.

I have found since completing my education that my calling allows me to serve others in an effort to help them improve their circumstances. In fact, I see my calling in social work as being the hands and feet of Christ striving to bring Hope to many people through service.

I am starting my 10th year teaching biology at Louisiana Christian University this fall and I regularly tell people that I have the best job; I get paid to talk about biology and Jesus, two things I regularly do for free.

I chose Louisiana Christian University because it provided an education that would prepare me for a vocation as a teacher and a community leader and helped me grow in my Christian faith.  The same core values I received at LCU many years ago, remain as qualities still available at our school “on the hill.”

Being a professor, and now the Dean of Students at LCU, has allowed me to take both my natural talents and the spiritual gifts from the Lord and use them daily. Being around students in such a transitional time of life allows for authentic relationships to form, and mentorship becomes a natural part of everyday.
