About Dr. Scott Pickard

Dr. Pickard has been teaching history for the past thirteen years. He earned a M.A. and a Ph.D. at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Prior to coming to Louisiana Christian University, he taught at Flint Hills Christian School in Green, Kansas, at Kansas State and at Cairn University in Philadelphia, PA. He previously had been in the pastorate for almost fifteen years, serving in churches in Maryland, Wisconsin and Texas. He studied at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and received a M.Div. and also a Th.M. in Counseling/Psychology. Even more importantly, he met his wife Karen while studying at the school. He also studied at Sioux Falls Seminary in Sioux Falls, SD.

Dr. Pickard holds the L. D. Dawson Professorship in History. His primary field of study pertains to American history and religious history. His research interests include the American Civil War and religion and politics. He feels fortunate that he gets to teach at Louisiana Christian University where he can teach about a subject he loves, work with great faculty and staff, and gets to help students grow in their faith.

Along with being married to his wife Karen he has two sons and daughters in-law. In his free time, he enjoys reading and playing sports. He also admits to being a Fantasy Football fanatic.
