Dr. Christine Reese

Dr. Christine Reese has been passionate about history from a young age.  She received a B.A. in History from Houghton College before completing an M.A. and Ph.D. in History at The Pennsylvania State University.  In graduate school, she studied Early Modern European history with a specialty field in early Stuart Britain.  Her dissertation, “Controlling Print? Burton, Bastwick and Prynne and the Politics of Memory,” explored the battles to control the content and distribution of printed works in seventeenth-century England during the reign of Charles I and the subsequent civil war.  Her research interests focus on the intersections between religion, politics and print culture in Tudor and Stuart Britain. At Louisiana Christian University, Dr. Reese teaches a broad range of courses in European history, serves as Chair of the Division of History and Political Science, and oversees LCU’s chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.  She is the holder of the Richard L. Crowell Professorship in Pre-Law.  She believes that the study of history is of great value to all students as it teaches them critical thinking and reading skills.  Her goal in the classroom is to encourage students to become life-long learners.  And as a Christian educator, she also tries to teach through example as she lives out Jesus’ command to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” [Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27 NIV]. Outside of the classroom, Dr. Reese enjoys watching historical movies, reading novels, working on Sudoku puzzles, completing counted cross-stich projects, and traveling to visit family and friends.
