Joe Waller, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Christian Studies

About

Dr. Waller was raised in the Greater New Orleans area, where he was homeschooled from kindergarten through 12th grade. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Northwestern State University, where he was active in the local church and in the BCM. Shortly after college, he moved back to New Orleans to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned an M.Div. (Christian Thought), a Th.M., and a Ph.D. (Theology, with a minor in Ethics).

He served as a youth minister at a small church and in various roles in the seminary while he studied, including as adjunct instructor for classes in ethics, church history, and theology. He is married to Maci, whom he met at seminary and who also serves the kingdom of God in various ways.

Dr. Waller’s research interests include the fear of the Lord and theological ethics, especially as they relate what we believe to how we live. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and has presented at both its regional and annual meetings. He enjoys writing (particularly poetry), reading (particularly fiction), and eating (just about anything).
