Center for Online Innovation and Development (COID) Information

Utilizing a $2.2 million Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Louisiana Christian University launched the Center for Online Innovation and Development (COID) and a new LMS (Canvas) as it moved to 100 percent online classes for remote learning on March 30, 2020. The grant enabled LCU to employ a team that provides faculty training using Canvas (the LMS at LCU), technology support for faculty, and an extensive curriculum development process that utilizes Quality Matter standards.

Mission: Our innovative team serves the faculty by providing training, development, and support services. Through creative problem solving, collaboration, and reflection, we provide an environment for growth in teaching and learning in an attempt to best support the La College community.

The COID provides support and information to faculty/adjuncts that are teaching distance learners as well as traditional students that are taking online or hy-flex classes. We work with academics to create online templates, course materials and resources that meet primary and secondary accreditation requirements. The COID team works in collaboration with the IT department to facilitate access to online learning and the LMS platform.

Vision: Our vision is to be known as a facilitator of high-quality online courses based on the college’s core values and the guiding principles. We aim to deliver innovative instructional technologies that facilitate Christ-centered teaching.

Values: Our core values align with that of the institution. We focus on the following six areas as we build this department to serve the college: partnership, investing in our team, commitment to excellence and integrity, diversity, equity and inclusion, teamwork and accountability and finally flexibility, adaptability and an entrepreneurial spirit (It's an attitude and approach to thinking that actively seeks out change, rather than waiting to adapt to change. It's a mindset that embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement.)

Goals: To create high-quality online learning experiences for students in the upcoming academic years through Canvas and supporting technology.

This work is being guided by a shared vision and these fundamental goals:

  • Create college courses that afford educational opportunities for students unable to participate in a traditional college experience.
  • Ensure the technology used is appropriate to the objectives of the academic program(s).
  • Provide training to faculty in the use of instructional techniques and in the use of associated technologies that support pedagogical and andragogical research.
