VA Yellow Ribbon Program

Louisiana Christian University is proud to participate in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, also known Yellow Ribbon Program.

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 and applies to tuition and mandatory fees.

Yellow Ribbon Eligibility Requirements

  • Only individuals entitled at the 100% benefit level (or their dependents using transferred entitlement)
  • Individuals who served at least 36 months or more of active duty after September 10, 2001
  • Individuals who served at least 30 continuous days on active duty and w ere discharged due to a service-connected disability.

Application Process

  • The student must apply and receive admission into a degree-seeking program at Louisiana Christian University.
  • The student must apply with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to receive education assistance benefits under the Post-9 /11 GI Bill® (also known as Chapter 33). Service members should apply using VA FORM 22-1990. The spouse or dependent of a service member should apply using VA FORM 22-1990e.
  • Upon notification of approval by the VA, the student should submit a copy their Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Office of the Registrar. Note: In lieu of the VA COE the service member may submit a copy of their eBenefits Entitlement Report.
  • The student should notify the VA Certifying Official in the Office of the Registrar of their eligibility and interest to receive the scholarship offered through Yellow Ribbon Program.

Awards & Waiting List

Louisiana Christian University has funding available for up to 25 students.

Awards will continue as long as the student remains enrolled in good standing and maintains satisfactory academic progress . Participating students that withdraw or cease attendance from the University and are later readmitted will only be able to participate if funding is available. If funding is not available, students will be added to the waiting list.

When the program capacity has been reached, the University Certifying Official reserve s the right to maintain a waiting list of interested students.

Louisiana Christian University is approved by the Veterans Administration (VA) as a training facility for eligible veterans, service personnel, reservists, children and widow/widowers of veterans.  LCU’s Va School Certifying officer (SCO) collects and processes all required VA documentation.

Apply for VA Benefits

  1. Apply to LCU
  2. After being admitted to LCU, apply for Veterans Educational Benefits. Information regarding eligibility, applications and certification may be obtained from the Veterans Administration (1-888-GI-BILL-1) or from LCU’s VA SCO.
  3. Post 9/11 and Dependent Assistance; send a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility* and complete the VA Data Form. VA Data Form must be submitted each term the student wishes to use benefit.
  4. Chapter 1606 send monthly amount letter and if eligible for the Kicker send Kicker verification.
  5. Upon receipt of all required documents and after Drop/Add period we will submit enrollment certification to the VA Regional office.

Certification of Eligibility

Once the Department of Veteran’s Affairs has received your application and all the necessary documentation, the claim will be processed. Veterans and eligible dependents will receive notification of this action in the form of a Certificate of Eligibility. This certificate will indicate the type of benefit you are entitled to, the number of months you have to use your benefit and the date your benefit will expire.

The VA SCO acts as a point of contact and liaison for the student, the college and the Veterans Administration and collects and processes all required VA documentation. Note that the VA SCO is not part of the Veterans Administration, but is an employee of Louisiana Christian University.

Enrollment Certification

Louisiana Christian University’s VA School Certifying official reports pre-registered hours (only) as soon as VA Data Form is received. All information regarding your enrollment including amount of tuition/fees will be reported to the Department of Veterans Affairs after the Drop/Add period. Any changes in enrollment are electronically submitted. Students receiving benefits under Chapter 30, 1606, & 1607 are required to confirm their enrollment status to the VA at the end of each month by calling 1-888-442-4551.

Upon receipt of all required documentation and after the Drop/Add period, the certifying official will forward an Enrollment Certificate to the Veterans Administration Regional office. No paperwork will automatically be prepared and forwarded to the Veterans Administration for processing and payment without the student’s request. Students must complete the VA Data Form for each term that they wish to receive benefits. Completed forms should be forwarded to the office of the Certifying official.

About VA Benefits

  • Benefits are paid on a monthly basis and the amount varies depending on the veteran’s.
  • The first disbursement usually is received approximately 4 to 6 weeks after you have been certified by the VA SCO.  The VA SCO will send the information on registration and the start of classes to each student receiving VA or Military aid once the certificate of eligibility and VA data forms are received.
  • Post 9/11 recipient’s book stipend and housing funds will be direct deposited into the bank account that was set up when you applied on Vonapp (tuition and fees will be sent directly to LCU).
  • VA programs and policies and LCU services and procedures are subject to change. You should maintain contact with the VA School Certifying official and the Veterans Administration.
  • Your enrollment will be certified after Drop/Add on a semester-by-semester basis only, not on an annual basis.
  • If you withdraw from LCU drop or add a course that may change that may change your training time, or change your major, you are required to immediately contact the VA SCO concerning the necessary forms to complete.
  • Dropping your credit load may result in a retroactive reduction in benefits, thus creating an overpayment. As a result of an overpayment, you may then owe a debt to the Veterans Administration or the school.
  • Benefits will not be paid for audited courses or courses that do not count toward degree completion.
  • Benefits will be discontinued if you do not maintain SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress).

Recruiting

Louisiana Christian University does not use aggressive or high-pressure tactics to recruit prospective students. Our staff provides students all the necessary information to allow students an opportunity to make informed decisions about their education.

Prior Approval from ESO

Louisiana Christian University offers Military Tuition Assistance (TA) services for eligible members. To find out if you qualify, please speak with your Educational Services officer (ESO) or military service counselor to determine your benefits. Students must get prior approval from their ESO before scheduling classes.

Return of Unearned TA Policy

Louisiana Christian University awards Tuition Assistance to eligible students for each semester they attend college. If a student withdraws, they might lose the full amount of TA funds. Louisiana Christian University complies with the Department of Defense policy and will return any unearned TA funds on a prorated basis through at least 60% portion of the term for which the funds were awarded. Unearned TA funds are returned according to the student's withdrawal date.
