Johnson delivers revival messages at Philadelphia BC

Louisiana Christian University President Dr. Mark Johnson delivered the revival messages this week at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Deville.

The four-night revival was held Feb. 8-11.

The first night focused on prayer, emphasizing the weight that lifts when we kneel before God. A look at Acts 12 saw that prayer is not a recourse, but a weapon against forces in opposition. The second night centered on worship as a lifestyle, drawing from Jesus’ words to the Samaritan woman to worship “in spirit and in truth.” The third night highlighted faith from Luke 22:31-32, reminding us that Jesus prayed in advance, despite satan’s desire to sift us like wheat. The weapon for overcoming is a faith that “does not fail.” The final night called us to be a light in a dark world, grounded in Matthew 5:14-16, living out prayer, worship, and faith through bold witness.

“It was a meaningful and humbling experience,” Johnson said. “The congregation was engaged, receptive and spiritually hungry. There was a sense of expectancy each night, and it was evident that God was stirring hearts.”

He said the week of revival messages was intentionally structured, as revival begins privately before it manifests publicly. His message included the following key points:

  • Prayer – Surrender your burdens; leave lighter than you came.
  • Worship – Make your entire life an offering to God.
  • Faith – Understand that some battles are won not by strength, but by faith, and Christ intercedes for us.
  • Light – Revival is incomplete until it shines outward into the world.

“The primary takeaway was that spiritual renewal is not emotional hype,” Johnson said, “It is transformation that results in mission.”

What stood out most, he said, was the intentional ending.

“We concluded with an assignment,” Johnson said. “The goal was not simply to feel revived, but to live revived. Prayer lifted us, worship aligned us, faith strengthened us, and ultimately, we were sent to be light in a world that desperately needs us.”

PBC member and media production team volunteer Jeff Young said Johnson was an engaging and humorous speaker who engaged the congregation with deep spiritual insights and biblical truths.

“His delivery was personable, yet powerful,” Young said. “He is a great asset to our religious and academic community.”

PBC Pastor Dr. Philip Robertson said it was a true time of renewal and refreshing in God’s presence.

“God was clearly at work as each message was very relevant and timely for our church family” Robertson said.
