Smith Scholarship

The Smith Scholarship Competition

Each year, the Smith Scholarship Competition gathers an extraordinary group of young leaders, individuals whose faith, service, and integrity distinguish them as role models in their communities. This exclusive, invitation-only event is more than a scholarship competition! It is a celebration of character, calling, and leadership guided by Christian values.
Those invited to apply have already demonstrated remarkable achievement and an unwavering commitment to serving others. They have been recognized not only for their accomplishments but for the way they live out their faith with purpose, humility, and conviction.

About the Competition

The Smith Scholarship Competition, which happens every January, includes a series of faith-centered leadership activities, interviews, and reflective sessions that allow participants to share their story, vision, and impact. Finalists will be considered for the prestigious Smith Scholarship, awarded to one deserving student who exemplifies excellence in scholarship, leadership, and spiritual maturity.

To participate, students must have at least a 28 ACT score and submit an academic resume, two letters of recommendation, and a short essay. They are further evaluated by LCU faculty members based on their leadership qualities and Christian character in their written responses and the on-site interview portion of the competition. The winner receives a four-year full tuition, room, and board scholarship.

The Smith Scholarship was founded in the early 1970s by an endowment donation from Tom and Beverly Durham to honor Beverly Durham’s mother, Elizabeth Smith.
