LCU moves to hybrid class schedule beginning Monday, August 24

Most Louisiana Christian University fall semester classes face-to-face classes will move to a hybrid model beginning Monday, Aug. 24 in an effort to limit student exposure to COVID-19.

“Transitioning to this method will allow for additional spacing in the classroom, help to keep students safer, and hopefully lower the number of students who have to be quarantined when a classmate tests positive for COVID,” said Provost Dr. Cheryl Clark.

Instructors will be emailing students in their classes with specific details. Most classes will work by dividing the students in half. For a Monday/Wednesday class, the instructor will divide the class and half of the students will attend on Monday in the face-to-face classroom and the other half will attend virtually. On Wednesday, the students will swap places. Tuesday/Thursday classes will do the same thing. For three-day classes, everyone will attend virtually on Fridays.

Some of the smaller classes will continue to meet face-to-face if they are in larger classrooms that allow for a distance of six feet between students, she said.

Three additional computer labs in Alexandria Hall and the library will be open Monday through Thursday from 5-10 p.m. for students to have access to their virtual classes. For safety and security, there will be security guards assigned to monitor the labs

“We are doing everything possible for our students to have the best possible experience at LCU,” said President Dr. Rick Brewer. “It’s an unprecedented and difficult time, and the situation is fluid. We continue to monitor the situation and will make adjustments or changes as needed.”
