Theatre Louisiana Christian presents ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’

by Kayla Condrey
Theatre Louisiana Christian opens its 2025-2026 season Thursday evening with a beloved comedy: “The Play That Goes Wrong.”
If you have never heard of the show, the first thing to know is that it is a play within a play. The Cornley Drama Society attempts to put on “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” a whodunnit filled with twists and turns nobody could ever expect. Except, audience members aren’t the only ones taken by surprise. The actors themselves are subjected to several obstacles and technical mishaps that nobody could have possibly accounted for.
“It’s almost absurd just how much goes wrong so quickly,” said junior communication, media and theater major Kayla Condrey, who plays the role of Annie Twilloil. “It’s a lot to balance, but it’s very exciting to start the season with such a bang. Literally.”
Each character is vastly different from the other, all with their own quirks and personalities that the audience is sure to love. No two characters are exactly alike, and it’s worth keeping a keen eye out for the little things one might miss.
“Even if we put together a five-minute video of things going wrong, that wouldn’t even cover half of it,” said Cayden Walls, a senior at LCU, double-majoring in theater and media and communication. He will be portraying the role of Max, who is sure to make the audience laugh nonstop. “We’re excited to have an audience. The show takes on a new shape when you have people reacting to the chaos on stage.”
“The Play That Goes Wrong” runs Sept. 25-27 and Oct. 2-4 at 7 p.m. with matinee performances Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Martin Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for LCU students, faculty, and staff; $15 for senior citizens and non-LCU students; and $20 for general admission. Groups of 12 or more can attend for $10 per person.
