LCU holds Health Fair for students
Louisiana Christian University held a student Health Fair on Thursday with more than 20 local vendors in attendance, sharing information about services to help students make healthier life choices.
“The Health Fair is an annual event,” said Janet Sanders, RN and director of Student Wellness. “I invite various entities from our health and wellness community to come and share their information and answer any questions the students may have regarding the businesses they are representing. The vendors also bring goodies such as, ink pins, snacks, sticky pads, cups, and more to hand out to them.”
The event was from 10 a.m. to noon in the Granberry Conference Center and included businesses such as Louisiana Athletic Club, Timeless Med Spa, All Hour Fitness, Rapides Regional Medical Center, LifeShare, Telecris Plasma Resources, Cenla Pregnancy Center, Louisiana Department of Health, among others.
Leslie Kirk, a community outreach specialist with Cenla Pregnancy Center, said the center participates to inform students who may find themselves in either a crisis or non-crisis pregnancy that they have a support system. The center offers help throughout pregnancy and until a baby is two years old.
Kacey Long with the Louisiana Office of Public Health said her office attends the Health Fair to ensure students are aware of services available locally.
“The Parish Health Unit offers easy and convenient free services and many resources that can help people.”
LifeShare held a blood drive during the event. Unitech Training Academy massage therapy students offered free chair massages to attendees.
