Amanda Dubois, Ph.D.

A native of central Louisiana, Dr. DuBois studied biology as an undergraduate at Louisiana Tech University and microbiology and immunology at Tulane University, primarily focusing on vaccine design and development. After completing her Ph.D., she and her family moved to Albuquerque, where she continued her research in immunology during a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Infectious Disease and Inflammation at the University of New Mexico. Throughout her undergraduate and graduate studies, Dr. DuBois was involved in research projects involving various topics including phylogenic relationships of Australian fungi, evaluating vaccines for potential biological weapons, testing components of edible and transcutaneous vaccines, and understanding pulmonary immune responses to lethal and non-lethal bacterial infections. After several years away from home, she felt that God was calling her to return to her roots so she and her family returned to Grant Parish.  She joined the Biology faculty at Louisiana Christian University in the fall of 2012. In her time at LCU, Dr. DuBois has taught a variety of subjects from non-major introductory biology to advanced classes like research in scientific literature. In each class she is known to regularly use phrases like “This is one of my favorite subjects!” because so many topics within biology fall into that category! Dr. DuBois and her husband Vaylon have three children: Taylor, Parker, and Grace. When possible, she enjoys indulging in fantasy/sci-fi books and movies, picking and canning fresh fruits and vegetables, and kayaking in the local waterways.  She is also passionate about personal fitness and whole-food nutrition.
